The Self-Evaluation Analysis helps you gain a clear, trust-wide picture of how leaders are grading their schools. It brings together every SEF entry into one place, so you don’t have to chase or request updates individually.
-
SEF Grades – Instantly view an overview of the grades schools have assigned to each area of the SEF. You can filter results by school, school type, framework, or even zoom in on specific grades to highlight strengths and risks.
-
SEF Text – Go beyond the numbers. Pull together all text answers added against SEF frameworks to understand why leaders have graded their schools the way they have. This makes it easy to capture context, nuance, and evidence behind the judgements.
To share or analyse further, you can export data at any point as Excel, PNG, or PDF.
This analysis gives you a transparent overview of leadership confidence across the trust — without sending a single email.
Note: Schools must have data sharing enabled and be on the same SEF framework for their data to feed into Observatory.
Rapid School Updates via the Analysis Screen
Observatory isn’t just about reading the data — it’s about acting on it immediately. With the Activity Slider, you can add or edit key information for schools without leaving the analysis screen.
To do this, click on the relevant activity slider icon on the right-hand side of any analysis screen.
-
Green "Add Activity" Slider – Add visits, actions, and contacts directly to a school. Choose your school, log your visit record, add an action, or record a contact — all from the same quick menu.
-
Blue KPI Slider—Instantly update KPIs for any school. If the analysis shows attendance is an issue (or a strength), you can update the KPI on the spot, with changes automatically saved.
This is super helpful because you can use the analysis you're already viewing on this page to inform the decisions behind your KPIs. Does the analysis show that attendance is an issue or strength in a school? Quickly update your attendance KPIs from this menu without needing to navigate between dashboards or screens.
Any change in selection will be auto-saved.
If you need to add any additional notes or contextual information against a KPI, click on the KPI name.
Add as much or as little detail as required and click Save Notes when done.
