By collecting and analysing performance management data, you can identify patterns and trends to identify areas of strength and weakness in your schools, allowing you to make evidence-based decisions to change or improve.

Observatory Performance Management Analysis is split into three areas. These are:

  • Development Feedback.
  • Professional Standards.
  • Performance Reviews.

Rapid School Updates via the Analysis Screen

Did you know that you can directly add and edit key information for schools via this analysis screen? Our Activity Slider lets you rapidly update school KPIs, visits, actions, and contacts with just a few clicks!

To do this, click on the relevant activity slider icon on the right-hand side of any analysis screen. The blue icon is our KPI editor, and the green icon is for adding visits, actions and contacts.

Add Activity Slider

Click the green plus icon on the right-hand side to quickly add visits, actions, and contacts to a school via the analysis page.

The slider will then pop out, allowing you to select a school to focus on. Once a school is selected, you can then add new items, such as Actions and Record of Visits, from this menu.

Each option will take you directly to the relevant page to perform these tasks.

You can also navigate directly to the school's full dashboard or quickly view/edit the school's KPIs.

To quickly update KPIs for a school, click the blue icon on the right-hand side.

The slider will then pop out, allowing you to select a school to focus on. You can then quickly update as many KPIs as required without leaving the page.

This is super helpful because you can use the analysis you're already viewing on this page to inform the decisions behind your KPIs. Does the analysis show that attendance is an issue or strength in a school? Quickly update your attendance KPIs from this menu without needing to navigate between dashboards or screens.

Any change in selection will be auto-saved.

If you need to add any additional notes or contextual information against a KPI, click on the KPI name.

Add as much or as little detail as required and click Save Notes when done.

Development Feedback

The Development Feedback analysis gives you a powerful, real-time view of all development feedback across your schools, empowering you to identify strengths, spot trends, and drive meaningful improvement.

  • Only finalised records are included in the analysis.

  • Grades (e.g. Strength, Area for Development etc) are the only items analysed within grade-based sections.

  • Text statements will appear in a separate section at the bottom of the analysis.
  • Notes or comments added alongside a grade statement are not included in the analysis, only the selected grade itself is captured.

  • If no grade is selected, nothing will be included in the analysis, even if notes or comments have been entered.

From the main Analysis page of Observatory, on the Performance Management Panel, click See Areas and click Development Feedback.

The page shows you a breakdown of your schools' statements against staff.

Development Feedback 2025.jpg

By default, the analysis here doesn't include the names of staff members. If you'd like to see this, you can contact perspectivesupport@angelsolutions.co.uk and request that this data setting be switched on.

You can further narrow down the performance reviews by utilising the Staff Category filter at the top of the page, provided your schools have assigned staff categories within their Perspective account.

The grades awarded to each statement will be displayed as a percentage so you can quickly see the performance in this area. If you hover over a grade bar, a pop-up will appear confirming the grade, number of schools, and number of staff it has been awarded.

So that you can change your view, there are several filter options that you can apply to this page.

To export your analysis in more detail, click the export option on the right-hand side. You'll then have the option of downloading the data as a raw Excel file, snapshot image, or PDF document. We recommend using the Data (.xlsx) export for more detailed analysis.

Please note that to see this analysis, your schools must be subscribed to Perspective Premium and have data sharing enabled. Only Development Feedback templates used across all schools will be shown.

Professional Standards

The Professional Standards analysis gives you a real-time view of all the professional standards data stored across your schools.

This analysis will show each teacher's last answer for the selected period.

From the main Analysis page of Observatory, on the Performance Management Panel, click See Areas and click Professional Standards.

To export your analysis in more detail, click the export option in the top-right corner. You'll then have the option of downloading the data as a snapshot image or as a PDF document. We recommend using the Data (.xlsx) export for a more detailed analysis.

Performance Reviews

The Performance Reviews analysis page is designed to give you a real-time view of exactly where your schools are up to with their performance review cycle.

Performance reviews usually start at the beginning of the academic year and are maintained until the end of the summer term. This analysis page lets you see which schools are completely on top of that process and which ones may be behind and need intervention.

To access this analysis, navigate to the main Analysis page in Observatory, use the Performance Management panel, click See Areas, and then select Performance Reviews.

By default, the analysis here doesn't include the names of staff members. If you'd like to see this, you can contact perspectivesupport@angelsolutions.co.uk and request that this data setting be switched on.

Staff category PM analysis.jpg

The analysis shows you all the different performance review stages in Perspective and the percentages of reviews in that position.

You can further narrow down the performance reviews by utilising the Staff Category filter at the top of the page, provided your schools have assigned staff categories within their Perspective account.

The table below gives a rough overview of the 'expected' status a Performance Review should be in at each time of year.

Status Time of Year
Not Scheduled Beginning of the academic year
Scheduled September - November
Draft September - November
Active November - July
Closing July
Closed End of the academic year

This table is designed as a guide. If a school uses a different PM timeline, it won't apply.

Hovering over the percentages will display the total reviews count in that stage. You can switch from percentages to counts by clicking the Counts option on the right-hand side of the page.

Alternatively, to view the names of the staff members responsible for the performance reviews, click the Export button and choose the .xlsx option.

That will download an Excel sheet with all your filtered data, but with a row per review so you can see the staff members to whom the reviews belong.
