The KPI layouts are designed with practicality and usability in mind. They empower MAT administrators with the ability to create tailored data displays within their trust, facilitating informed decision-making. By combining predefined KPI sets, administrators can effortlessly construct layouts that align with the unique objectives and priorities of the MAT.

The image below represents the difference between KPIs, Sets and Layouts, for reference.

Layouts comprise KPI Sets, so you must first ensure your MAT has KPI sets set up inside Observatory. For help with KPI Sets, click here.

Quick Steps

  1. Ensure your MAT has KPI Sets configured already.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Click KPI Layouts.
  4. From here, you can create, edit or delete KPI Layouts.

Creating a KPI Layout

If you have already been using KPIs, the good news is that we have already created your first Layout for you! Your KPIs will look exactly as they did before, but now they belong to a default Layout.

Only Observatory Administrators can create KPI layouts. To create a Layout, click the cog icon on your main toolbar, scroll to KPIs and click KPI Layouts.

All your MAT-defined layouts will be visible here. To create a new one, click New Layout.

Give your new layout a title and click Continue. Your layout template will be created.

You'll now have the ability to add KPI Sets to it. To do this, click Add KPI Set. All the existing KPI Sets in your account will then be available to add to your custom layout via the KPI Set dropdown.

When a set is selected, it will show the KPIs and any descriptors that are part of it.

You can then continue to add multiple KPI Sets by clicking Add KPI Set To Layout and repeating the steps.

At any point during the creation of your layout, you can preview the contents by clicking Preview. The content will not be editable in preview mode; all grades are shown as Not Set, as this is an example of how the layout will look.

The system automatically saves your changes when you add or remove a KPI set.

You can quickly see what is in a KPI set by clicking the three dots and selecting Full Details. This will present you with a pop-up panel displaying the KPIs within.

Editing a Layout

To edit your KPI Layout, open it up (via Settings > KPI Layouts) and select it from the All Layouts panel on the left.

You can add KPI Sets, remove existing KPI Sets, or click the options icon alongside existing KPI Sets to make changes to them.

To change the order of any set on the layout, simply drag and drop it into position.

Remember, you can keep previewing your layout to ensure you're happy with its appearance.

Using a Layout

Once you have created a KPI Layout, it will be available for selection within a school's dashboard. Click on your Schools option from the main toolbar and select a school you can access.

You must select the appropriate layout through the KPI Layouts dropdown option here.

Your layout will then be displayed, and you can toggle the KPIs as required. Any changes will automatically be applied.

To switch to another layout, simply select it from the KPI Layouts dropdown.
