Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are powerful tools that provide measurable values, allowing Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) leaders to evaluate the effectiveness and success of their schools. By setting and monitoring KPIs, trust leaders can use Observatory to gain clear insights into various aspects of school performance, including academic achievement, student progress, attendance rates, and financial health.
KPIs enable data-driven decision-making, helping leaders to identify strengths, address weaknesses, and implement targeted improvements.
KPI Overview
Key Performance Indicators comprise a large part of Observatory, from defining the templates and KPIs themselves, the schools you assign them to, and the analysis you produce as a result. KPIs are spread throughout the system so this guide is designed to give a brief overview of each element of the system where KPIs are included. Each area does have it's own larger help guide.
KPI Administration
KPI Administration is divided into three areas; all three can be found in the Settings area of the Observatory.
These areas are:
KPIs: This is where you define the individual KPIs, grades and descriptors that make them up. You can find out more here.
KPI Sets: Here, you define groups of multiple KPIs (called a Set) to drive more meaningful analysis. You can find out more here.
KPI Layouts: This allows you to organise and view KPI Sets based on their content, area or intended audience. You can find out more here.
Please note that only users with the KPIs Admin option permission can access these areas.
Assigning KPIs to Schools
The main way to assign and edit school KPIs is via the individual school's dashboard. Navigate to Schools and select a school; you'll then be taken to the KPIs tab on that school's dashboard.
For more information on assigning KPIs to schools, check out our Schools guide.
Did you know that you can also quickly assign and edit KPIs for schools via some analysis screens?
When inside an analysis screen, such as MIS Analysis, click the tab on the right side of the page to expand the KPI activity slider. You can then select a school and quickly edit its KPIs.
KPI Analysis
Observatory offers detailed KPI analysis, allowing you to see performance against your KPIs, both aggregated or for individual establishments.
Once you have set KPIs in the system, you can run live analysis or view a snapshot from an earlier time.
